The Benefits of Installing a New Wooden Fence to Suit Your Needs

Installing a New Wooden Fence

A solid fence around your home is the first defense against trespassers. It creates a physical barrier between your personal space and the public beyond. It also gives you and your entire household privacy, ensuring you can enjoy every inch of your privately-owned property without fear of being seen or judged by others.

There are many materials to consider building your fence with. There’s concrete, stone, brick, steel, iron, PVC, etc. Below, we’ll focus on wood as a fencing material and the benefits a wood fence installation can bring to your property and home.

Reasons to Choose a Wood Fence Installation

  1. Wood is a readily available and affordable material.

Wood is a renewable resource. Many varieties ideal for fencing are readily available anytime you decide to build one. Unless you pick a rare species that has to be transported from another state or imported from another country, you can save more money installing a wood fence than a wrought iron fence, for example.

  2. Wood fences offer absolute privacy.

Given the abundance and affordability of wood planks, installing a wooden fence without gaps could be well within your budget. You can build a fence tall enough to totally conceal your home from the street beyond.

You will then be free to enjoy your property to the fullest. For example, you can have an outdoor shower and jacuzzi or an outdoor living-entertaining area with audio equipment and a fully-functional outdoor kitchen.

A sturdy, solid barrier between your property and the rest of the community can give you a better sense of security and peace of mind. This is a fantastic benefit that some would say is worth spending top dollar for.

  3. Wood fences provide security.

A wooden fence, like other materials, provides security against trespassers, vandals, and burglars. Studies show that physical barriers like gates help deter robbers from entering a building or home. Of course, fences aren’t absolute and impenetrable; you’ll still need additional home security devices to help ensure your family’s safety. Still, a wooden fence is an excellent start to protecting your home, especially if you’re still saving up for a robust security system.

  4. Wood is easy to install.

As a construction material, wood is invaluable because it is easy to cut to size, shape according to your preference, and install along your property’s perimeter. There’s no need to dig deep in the soil or prep the ground as you would need to if you’re pouring concrete as a fence base.

A wood fence installation only requires some metal parts to anchor the structure to the ground and hold the planks firmly together.

It’s also easier and faster to install than wrought iron and concrete. And while PVC fences are arguably just as simple and fast to put up, wood is sturdier and more likely to last without losing its aesthetic appeal.

  5. Wood fences increase your home’s curb appeal.

Because wood is a naturally occurring product, it is highly aesthetic and fits nearly all architectural and design concepts. Whether you have a modern home with lots of glass and concrete or a cozy, cottage-like house with a country vibe, a wooden fence can complete the overall look. Even a simple picket fence can give a property a charming appeal that other fencing materials cannot.

  6. Wood fences can increase your home’s market value.

Due to their aesthetic and security benefits, wood fences can increase a house’s asking price once listed on the market. A well-built wooden fence with quality, long-lasting materials can give you a high return on investment by attracting more buyers and receiving offers that match your listed price. If you plan to sell your home eventually, consider investing in premium wooden fences.

  7. Wood is versatile.

While we’re discussing wood’s aesthetic value, we should also highlight its versatility. Installing a wooden fence is cost-effective because it serves practical and aesthetic purposes. Moreover, it’s easy to modify a wooden fence to accommodate future home improvement and construction projects, like building a guest house, garage, or barn right at the edge of the property line.

For example, you can remove some wood planks to accommodate the new construction while the rest of the fence remains intact. It’s also easier to build an extension for a wood fence if you expand your property.

Wood’s versatility also stems from the fact that it’s generally affordable. You won’t regret temporarily installing a wood fence because it’s not like you’re flushing a large sum down the drain. In comparison, it’s harder to tear down a portion of concrete, brick, or iron fencing because it costs more to build and takes longer to install.

Other benefits of installing a wood fence include the following:

  • Establishing clear boundary lines around your property
  • Easy maintenance
  • Easy and affordable to repair
  • Eco-friendly
  • Prevents kids and pets from running beyond a backyard and into an adjacent street

Project: Wood Fence - Repair

I had another company install 2 sides of my fence. The back side of my fence was old and faded but still in pretty good condition. "As Good As New" power washed and sealed the old fence to match the new (cedar)fence. It's a little bit lighter than the new fence but still looks pretty good. Great Service. Professional. Fast. I highly recommend them.
